Los Angeles Olympics 2028: When cricket will return after 128 years in Los Angeles Olympics 2028, six teams will present their claim for gold medals in each of the men and women category. The organizers confirmed this on Wednesday. Cricket was earlier included in the Games held in Paris in 1900 in the Olympic Games. Then France and Great Britain participated in cricket. Two ODIs were played between these two teams, which has the status of unauthorized Test match.
Cricket will be played in the Cricket T20 format at the Los Angeles Olympics, in which six teams will compete in both men and women competitions. Each team can select a 15 -member team as a quota of 90–90 players has been allocated in both men and women. The International Cricket Council (ICC) includes Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe 12 full members. Apart from this, 94 countries are associate members.
In the Olympics 2028, the way of qualifying in cricket that has not been confirmed yet, but America is sure to get direct entry due to being a host country. The remaining five teams in each category will make their place in it through qualification. Cricket in Olympics will be in T20 format. It is believed that five teams living on top of the ICC rankings will be entered with the US to the Olympic Games with the US.
Cricket is included in the five sports that were approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be included in the next Olympic Games. Four other games are baseball/softball, flag football, lacros and squash.
Meanwhile, the IOC Executive Board on Wednesday approved the program of competitions for the Olympic Games 2028 and the Kota of the players. These games will have 22 more medal events than the Paris Olympics 2024.
The IOC has approved a record 351 medal events for Olympics 2028 but the number of players will remain 10500. The number of players also includes 698 players from the new Games. For the first time in the history of Olympic Games, the number of male and female players in team games will be the same. In other sports, like men in boxing, women category will have the same seven weight classes.
