Mahakumbh: Case filed against two social media accounts for putting objectionable videos of women


Prayagraj (UP):
The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case against two social media accounts for posting objectionable videos of women pilgrims bathing in Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. According to a police statement, the social media monitoring team found that some social media platforms were uploading videos of women bathing and changing clothes at the Kumbh Mela, which is a clear violation of their privacy and dignity. After this, cases were registered at Kotwali Kumbh Mela police station and legal proceedings were started.

The statement said that for the first time, a case was registered against a ‘Instagram’ account on 17 February for posting unfair videos of women pilgrims.

Police said that they have sought information from Meta to identify the account operator and after receiving the details, other action will be taken including arrest.

According to the police, in addition to this, in the second case registered on February 19, a ‘Telegram’ channel was found presenting similar videos for sale at various prices and legal proceedings have been started against the channel and investigation is going on.
