Matthew Wade Appointed Assistant Coach of Gujarat Titans: Gujarat Titans, the winner of IPL 2022, has appointed former Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade as assistant coach before the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Wade coaching staff will include head coach Ashish Nehra, batting coach Parthiv Patel and assistant coaches Ashish Kapoor and Narendra Negi. Gujarat Titans posted on X, ‘Champions. Fighter. The 37 -year -old Wade was a member of the GT’s team winning the GT title under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya in 2022 and then in 2024, where he played only three matches. Australian players, who have played 15 IPL matches, were not part of the IPL mega auction after retiring from international cricket.
Wade said goodbye to the 13 -year international career in October last year. He has played for Australia on more than 200 occasions, most of which he has played in two white ball formats. The winner of T20 World Cup 2021 has played 36 Test matches, 97 ODIs and 92 T20 matches for Australia. He has also captained ODI and T20 teams.
The upcoming edition of the IPL will begin from 22 March, in which defending winner Kolkata Knight Riders will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the first match of the season. Titans will start their campaign on 25 March against Punjab Kings at their home ground at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Titans have formed a 25 -member strong team in the mega auction last year, including South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, England’s Jose Butler, one of the leading fast bowlers of India, Mohammad Siraj and all -rounder Washington Sundar. Indian opener Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, Sai Sudarshan of Tamil Nadu, Rahul Tewatia of Haryana and Shah Rukh Khan of Tamil Nadu were retained players of franchisees.
Titans finished eighth in 10 teams in the previous edition of IPL, when she lost her first two seasons captain Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians.
