Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday announced several AI partnerships in the country, including an MoU with the government’s ‘India AI Mission’ to skill 5 lakh people. also includes. The MoU with ‘India AI’, a division of Digital India Corporation, aims to leverage AI to drive innovation, enhance productivity and promote inclusive growth across the country.
5,00,000 persons will be skilled
Under the MoU, Microsoft and ‘India AI’ will together skill 5,00,000 individuals including students, teachers, developers, government officials and women entrepreneurs by 2026. With this partnership, Microsoft and India AI will also establish an ‘AI Center for Excellence’ to promote rural AI innovation, which will be named ‘AI Catalysts’. Also, 1,00,000 AI innovators and developers will be supported through hackathons, community-building solutions and AI marketplace.
Foundation course for 20,000 educators
Under the MoU, 20 National Skill Training Institutes will also setup AI Productivity Labs, which will provide foundation courses to 20,000 educators of these institutes present in 10 states. This collaboration will focus on developing AI-enabled solutions for citizen scale domains such as healthcare, education, accessibility and agriculture. “We are excited to work closely with the government to bring the benefits of the India AI Mission to every corner of the country and democratize access to technology resources,” said Puneet Chandhok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia.
Use of AI is increasing rapidly in India
RAILTEL and Microsoft also entered into a five-year strategic partnership to advance digital, cloud and AI transformation in the Indian Railways and public sector space. A recent IDC study conducted by Microsoft showed that the use of AI in India is expected to increase from 63 percent in 2023 to 72 percent in 2024. On Tuesday, Microsoft announced plans to invest $3 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in India over the next two years, including setting up new data centres.
The tech giant also announced to train and skill 10 million people in AI by 2030. The company has already empowered 2.4 million Indians with AI skills, including civil servants, college students and the disabled.
