Actor Mohanlal has apologized after criticizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers regarding some scenes of his recent film ‘Emoran’. The actor regretted the “emotional injury” caused by the film on Facebook and confirmed that the controversial scenes would be removed. Mohanlal said that the love and belief of the audience is their strength. In a post shared on social media, Mohanlal said, “I understand that some socio-political subjects presented in the creation of ‘Emopuran’, the sequel to ‘Lucifer’, have mentally pained some of my fans. It is my duty to ensure that any of my films do not keep any political movement, ideology or religious group.”
He said, “I and Empuran’s team regret the trouble to our beloved audience. We accept our collective responsibility and we have decided to remove objectionable content from the film”. At the end of his note, Mohanlal wrote, “In the last four decades I have lived among you people. Your love and faith is my strength. I believe that I can’t live without it.”
After the release of the film on Friday, there was a strong response from the Sangh, which criticized scenes referring to the 2002 Gujarat riots. Kerala BJP President and former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that he would not watch the film, he accused the film of distorting the facts. Kerala BJP state president Rajiv Chandrashekhar has announced that he will not watch superstar Mohanlal’s recently released Malayalam film ‘Emopuran’.
Directed by actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran, ‘Empuran’ is the much awaited sequel of the 2019 blockbuster ‘Lucifer’. However, in view of the increasing controversy over the film, BJP leader Chandrashekhar has reacted to this. He said, “I saw Lucifer and also liked it. I was eager to see Empuran because it was a sequel. But now I have come to know that the producers have implemented 17 cuts and the film is going through the censorship again”.
Chandrashekhar said, “A film should be seen as a film. It cannot be seen as history. Any film that tries to make a story by distorting the truth is ruined”. Controversy arose after the release of the film on Friday, the audience expressed objections to some scenes, allegedly mentioned by the 2002 Gujarat violence.
