Mohammad rizwan might result from Odi Captaincy – Report: Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan and star batsman Babar Azam may soon meet Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board after facing defeat on New Zealand Run. Mohammad Rizwan wants clarity on his selection in T20 format and wants more rights as captain. Speaking to Telecom Asia Sports on the condition of anonymity, a senior PCB official said that Rizwan is unhappy with the board’s decision to exclude him and Babar Azam from the 5 -match International T20 series in New Zealand. Both have demanded to meet the PCB chief, as the Pakistan team management and selection committee have decided to exclude them so that some young players can be tried under the leadership of the new captain Salman Aga.
Sources close to Pakistan captain Rizwan have also confirmed this. According to the Telecom Asia Sports report, “As soon as Rizwan gets a chance, he will meet the PCB president and seek clarity on the decision to exclude himself from the T20 team.”
Let me tell you, Rizwan took over as the captain of the white ball in October last year, but in Zimbabwe, he was rested in small format and was given the responsibility for the T20 series against South Africa. After a 3–0 defeat to New Zealand, Rizwan said, “What do I say, I have nothing to do with T20. I don’t have everything in my hand like ODI here. (When we were out of T20 team) neither we knew nor advised us. It was his decision and we accepted the decision as we had done before.”
Sources said that Rizwan disagreed with the head coach Aqib Javed for the selection of playing XI for the first two matches and wanted five regular bowlers. Pakistan played with four regular bowlers and tried to get the remaining 10 over part-timer Salman Aga and Irrfan Khan completed. However, this decision proved to be expensive for him as both part-timer conceded 118 runs.
The source said, “Rizwan will want more rights in the selection of playing XI for the match and there is a possibility that if he is not given full rights, he can resign from ODI captaincy.”
Sources also said that PCB has already contacted some foreign coaches to take over from interim head coach Aqib Javed, while some former Pakistani players are also in queue to take over the reins. The players will now be busy in the Pakistan Super League till May 18, after which they will host Bangladesh for five T20 matches.
Rizwan will hop that he will get clarity about being excluded from the T20 International match and before that he will also get information about the freedom received as captain in white ball cricket.
