Mumbai:
When Garima Gupta, studying in 10th grade, returned home from school on February 10, she saw the memories of the childhood of dignity, not her home, only broken doors, scattered bricks, and her childhood. Father Shiv Sahai Gupta was helpless in his eyes, a helpless effort to somehow he could give his daughter back home again. Tears falling from mother Meena Gupta’s eyes were telling that those who were lost were not just bricks, it was her whole life. Now this family is forced to live in a small hut. Dreams have shattered, but hope is still left… will their house be able to stand again?
Money is taken, but not given home. Builders divert funds, show fake approval and break the rules with the connivance of the municipal corporation. The game of builder lobby continues in Mumbai and surrounding areas. In Nalasopara East, 8,000 people became homeless due to the fall of 41 illegal buildings, while complaints of delays and poor construction in Thane and Dombivali are increasing.
About 2,500 families no longer home
About 8,000 residents of Jai Ambe Welfare Society have become homeless in Achole area of Nalasopara East. The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has demolished 41 illegal buildings of the society, due to which about 2,500 families are no longer home. The Bombay High Court also did not provide any relief to the residents, saying that these buildings were completely illegal and were built on land reserved for sewage treatment plants and dumping grounds.
A mother, who lost her son a year and a half ago, is helpless today. Two houses built with full deposits of Sheetal Thakur were converted into debris between these 41 buildings. Now with their broken expectations and disabled husband, these elderly couple are forced to stay in the temple under compulsion. Neither house, no shelter, no support, temple is now their roof and boundary wall.
Sheetal Thakur says, we had two houses, both were broken, my son also went away a year and a half ago. Now my disabled husband and I have nothing left. We have come on the road. They live in the temple, eat and drink there… but how long? How to live
This is not just the story of one or two families, thousands of people of Vijayalakshmi Nagar have come on the road today. Those who were living comfortably under their roof yesterday, today they are standing on the streets! Urban from your own homes, to impress in your own city. Where once there were laughter, there were only broken doors, scattered walls and extinguished eyes.
Usha Hathwar says, borrowing from people and relatives, somehow living, my daughter is ill, but there is no treatment money. And now, the house was also snatched away. Living in this hut as soon as possible, but how long? No one knows.
Bought this house by applying deposits
Prabhu Gupta and his wife say, in 2004, we bought this house by putting our deposits, living here for years, everything was fine. But suddenly, our house was dropped in front of us. This house was ours till morning, but we were told at 10:30 pm – now it is not ours. Why? How? No answer!
Due to the fall of 41 buildings of Vijayalakshmi Nagar, not only residents, but also the builders are stranded. He claims that when the land was sold, it was not told that it is ‘reserved’ and a sewage plant will be built here. Now if the Bombay High Court orders, then they are ready to return people to their homes again.
Builder Rai Saheb Jaiswal says, 3 out of 41 buildings were mine, many buildings were broken before. But I don’t run, I stand with people. Just the order of the court is needed, we will build a house again. Actually, thousands of buyers are being cheated due to builder-bire Nexus in Mumbai and surrounding cities.
- Builders do not collect money from customers and do not give homes on time, and many projects remain stuck for years.
- The money taken from new buyers is used to repay the old investors, which makes people trapped.
- Projects are launched by making big promises, but later facilities are given incomplete.
- Buyers do not get any relief with the connivance of builder-bank-corporation officials.
- Buyers do not get household possession despite filling both EMI and fare.
- Despite having laws like RERA, many builders escape by violating the rules.
In Mumbai and surrounding cities, thousands of homebuyers are falling victims of cheating due to builder-bank Nexus. Even after years of booking, neither the flats nor the money is back, but the pressure to repay EMI is constantly increasing. The Supreme Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into this entire scam. Now it has to be seen whether this investigation will get justice to the victims or another long legal battle will begin.
