Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has set a new record with 54.8 million passengers in 2024. This is 6.3 percent more than 2023 and 19.41 percent more than 2019. Additionally, Mumbai International Airport recorded 346,617 air traffic movements (ATMs), an increase of 3.2 percent from last year.
Record of 1,70,000 passengers in a single day on 21st December
The year 2024 was a great year for CSMIA, which saw sharp growth in both passenger travel and operational efficiency. Passengers set a record for the highest number of passengers in a single day on 21 December 2024, in which about 1,70,000 passengers passed through the airport, of which 1,16,982 were domestic passengers and 52,800 were international passengers. The number of passengers at the airport increased significantly during the holiday season in 2024, which shows that the airport can handle high demand periods better.
CSMIA also achieved its highest operational performance in 2024. On February 3 and 10, it recorded the highest number of daily ATMs with 962 air traffic movements.
Most major domestic and international destinations
The major domestic destinations were Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa, which had 18 percent, 11 percent and 7 percent market share respectively. While in international routes, Dubai led with a market share of 16 percent, followed by London and Abu Dhabi at second and third place with 7 percent each.
Mumbai International Airport expanded its network by launching international flights to Tashkent, Almaty, and new domestic services to Deoghar, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Ayodhya, and Vijayawada. Additionally, new international airlines such as Nok Air, Thai Viet Jet, Salam Air, Uzbekistan Airways and Air Astana also began service, further cementing it as a major global travel hub.
