Name of this university of Jharkhand removed from UGC list


The University Grants Commission has removed the name of Pragyan International University located in Ranchi, Jharkhand from the list of universities under Section 2(0) of the UGC Act, 1956. UGC has removed the name of the university from the list after it did not submit necessary information for the purpose of inspection.

The Department of Higher and Technical Education (Directorate of Higher Education), Government of Jharkhand had passed a resolution on March 20, 2024 to repeal the ‘Pragyan International University Act, 2016’ by the Pragyan International University (Repeal), Act, 2023. According to the resolution, Pragyan International University has not come into existence even after its establishment in the year 2016 and the study-teaching work has not started in it.

Pragyan International University, Ranchi, Jharkhand was established vide Government of Jharkhand Act No. 11/2016 notified vide Notification No. LG-09/2016-84/Leg dated 16.05.2016, an official notification from the UGC said. . Accordingly, the name of the University was included in the list of Universities maintained by the UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 on 03.08.2016.

The UGC said, “After inclusion of its name in the UGC list of universities, Pragyan International University was required to submit information to the UGC for the purpose of inspection. However, the information was not received from the university. The university responded to telephone calls sent by the UGC. Calls and emails were not responded to. Therefore, UGC vide letter dated 19.06.2024 requested the Government of Jharkhand to apprise it of the status of the University.”

“The stakeholders including the student community are informed that the name of Pragyan International University, Ranchi, Jharkhand has been removed from the list of UGC Universities under Section 2(0) of the UGC Act, 1956,” the notification said.
