The neighboring country Nepal is once again in discussion. A period of demonstration, arson, sabotage and violence has started in Nepal. Two people have died and many people have been arrested. The protesters are demanding to restore the old monarchy. He also demands that Nepal be made a Hindu nation again. Some leaders of the National democracy party are also involved in this movement. Former King Gyanendra Shah of Nepal is also supported by the protesters. The result of this is that the movement has got so much wind. Although the situation is gradually becoming normal, but many questions are leaving behind them.
Democracy emerged in Nepal in 2007-08
The major reason behind the demand for the establishment of monarchy and Hindu state is political instability. 14 governments have been formed in Nepal in the last 16 years. The pace of development has slowed down and corruption is spoken. Unemployment and inflation have broken people’s back. In 2007-08, when democracy emerged in Nepal after ending the 240-year-old monarchy, the common people were very hoping. Especially people living in far -flung hilly areas felt that development would reach them. But the reverse happened. Democracy came on the stars, but he could not get down at the ground level. The right cancer was completed by the arrival of many governments. This increased a lot of resentment among the people. Many felt that it was better monarchy than this where common people used to work.
80 percent of the population Hindus
80 percent of Nepal’s population is Hindu, so many feel that Nepal will become a Hindu nation again. Professor SD Muni in JNU says that Nepal was a Hindu nation only from 1962 to 1990. Now whatever is being agitated about this, it is not impact in the whole of Nepal. He says that wherever the government is formed on the basis of one religion, people of other communities get upset. Many countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan have an example of this. Anyway, how many years has it been in Nepal. In such a few years, more work was done than the monarchy. Roads are built. The level of education has improved. The standard of living of people has improved. The current communist government of Nepal will never want to establish a monarchy or Hindu nation again in Nepal.
Amidst all this, Nepal’s relations are becoming stronger with China. Nepal feels that India is not doing as much help China is doing. China is opening a large scale manderin language training school in the Terai region of Nepal so that the Madheshis can be used as cheap laborers in the ever -increasing Chinese economy. Nepal has more inclination towards China to reduce dependence on India. Nepal has signed an agreement for road connectivity with China in every season. Despite India’s opposition, Nepal became part of China’s One Belt One Road. India has always complained that Nepal has not been openly standing in India’s favor due to India’s conflict with China. Now Nepal is also buying weapons from China. All the important contracts of Chinese companies are being given which were once with the companies of India. Not only this, it was also seen that Nepal has been promoting anti -India activities. India’s opposition is also an important issue in Nepal’s electoral politics.
Bread and daughter relationship between India and Nepal
However, there is a relationship between bread and daughter between India and Nepal. But in recent years, the distance between India and Nepal is increasing. So there is increasing closeness with China. It is a different matter that India is still the biggest trade partner of Nepal. About 70 percent of Nepal’s goods come from India. After India, Nepal has the highest trade with China. Despite this, Nepal feels that India’s policy is of expansionism. There is also an attempt to create such a perception in Nepal, India often interferes with its internal matters. The condition is that now Nepal demands a review in the 1950 Indo-Nepal Peace and Friendship Treaty. By the way, if Nepal wants to do this, India does not have any objection to this, but no agreement can be unilateral. Nepal wants India’s help in development but he wants to take a decision on the issue of security himself.
Lieutenant General Rakesh Sharma, who was the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gorkha Regiment, says that there was some negligence of India. We did not help Nepal, but did not do it on time, which deteriorated some relations. There were some policies that made a situation of doubt about India in the minds of Nepali people. So, if the Nepali people not getting into the army due to the Agnivir scheme were also the reason for the sourness in the relationship, then General Sharma says that it is not so. Common people want to be admitted to the army through a four -year Agnivir scheme, but the communist government there does not want this. Because of which people are now not able to come to the army to get admitted from Nepal.
Despite this, social and cultural relations between India and Nepal have been there for centuries. This relationship is related to mutual marriage, religious faith and culture. Lord Shri Ram of Ayodhya was married to Sita, the daughter of King Janak of Nepal. The majority of people of both countries share equal faith and philosophy. Gods and Goddess are also the same. The colloquial language is also the same. Around 80 lakh Nepali people live in India and six lakh Indian people live in Nepal. India has a 1850 km border with Nepal which is from five states. There is an open border between India and Nepal. There is no need for a visa to come. Due to all these reasons, even though the distance at the level of the government has increased, the trust and love between the general public of both countries can never be broken.
