‘Not expansionism, faith in developmentism’, PM Modi said in Thailand, condolences for earthquake victims


Bimstec Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Thailand to attend the BIMSTEC summit, met Thailand’s Prime Minister Partagarn Shinavatra on Thursday. During this, several issues were also discussed between the two leaders. After the conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India fully supports ASEAN Ekta and ASEAN centrality. In Indo-Pacific, we both support free, open, rules-based system. We believe in the policy of evolution, not expansionism.”

Both countries support independent, free system: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, India and Thailand support independent, free, inclusive, rules-based arrangements. We believe in the policy of ‘not expansionism, development’. We emphasized cooperation in the field of tourism, culture, education between the northeastern states of India and Thailand.

PM Modi also said that we have decided to take India-Thailand relations to the level of strategic partnership. Thailand has a special place in India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Hind-Pacific approach.

Cultural relations between India and Thailand centuries old: PM Modi

Talking about the cultural and spiritual relations between India and Thailand, PM Modi said that centuries -old relations between India and Thailand are tied to our deep cultural, spiritual door. During this visit of PM Modi, the base postage stamp on Ramayana mural paintings has also been released.

For this, PM Modi thanked the Thailand government. PM Modi said that on the occasion of my visit, I am grateful to the government of Thailand for issuing postage stamps based on the 18th century ‘Ramayana’ murals.

PM Modi also expressed condolences on the loss of life and property in the earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar recently. PM Modi said in a joint press statement with the Thailand counterpart that I express condolences on the loss of life and property in the earthquake.

PM Modi has reached to attend BIMSTEC summit

It may be noted that PM Modi reached Thailand on a two-day visit to attend the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay Bay of Bengal’s multi-regional technical and economic cooperation) summit on Thursday, after which he was given a ‘Guard of Honor’. He also saw a beautiful presentation of Ramkien – Thai Ramayana.
