
Khushboo Sundar started her career as a child artiste in Hindi films in the 80s and was seen in lead roles in Tamil and Telugu films in the 90s. He got a lot of fame there. However, very few people would know that she was Raj Kapoor’s first choice for the Bollywood cult film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. However, later she was replaced by Mandakini. In a recent interview, Khushboo revealed that she was cast by late Raj Kapoor in Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
While talking to Vicky Lalwani on YouTube channel, Khushboo told that Raj Kapoor wanted to launch me in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. We had also done a photo shoot for this. Seeing those photos, Raj Kapoor had said, ‘This is my Ganga.’ The plan was to complete the Gangotri schedule first, but it was snowing at that time. So he decided to shoot in Kolkata, where the red light area scene was to be shown. In this scene, Ganga had already become the mother of a child.
Ram Teri Ganga Maili was shot in 1984 and released the next year, 1985. This film was made by Raj Kapoor to launch his son Rajiv Kapoor. Mandakini was opposite Rajiv Kapoor in the film. This was also Mandakini’s first film. Khushboo told that at that time I was not even 14 years old. So Raj ji said, ‘She herself is a child. And the child will not look good in her hand. In such a situation, Mandakini was cast after removing her from the role of Ganga.
Ram Teri Ganga Maili was released in August 1985 and proved to be a big hit. This film was the last film directed by Raj Kapoor, which was released a few years after his death. Khushboo entered Bollywood as a lead actress in 1985 with the film Meri Jung. After this, he debuted in the South cinema industry in 1986 with the Telugu film Kaliyuga Pandavulu. After this, she moved to Chennai and later appeared in many South hit films.
After a long break of 13 years, Khushboo made a comeback to films in 2021 with Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe. He was recently seen in Vanvas, his first Hindi film after 30 years.
