The Independent has made a list of 60 best actors of the 21st century. These include actors from all over the world but do not include normal shows and films released after the year 2000. However, only one Indian actor has made it to this list. No, this is not Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan or any senior actor. Actually, late actor Irrfan Khan is at #41 position. Irfan who died in 2020 at the age of 53. Struggled for more than a decade from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. Before he got success with Asif Kapadia’s 2001 film The Warrior. The Independent praised Irrfan’s “grit” in portraying a warrior based in the actor’s home state of Rajasthan.
Irrfan caught people’s attention with his roles in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s 2003 crime drama Haasil, Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2003 gangster drama Maqbool and Mira Nair’s 2006 romantic drama The Namesake. His other memorable films include Life in a Metro, The Darjeeling Limited, Slumdog Millionaire, Paan Singh Tomar, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, Kissa, Haider, Piku, Talwar, Hindi Medium, The Song of Scorpions, Qarib Qarib Single, Caravan and English medium included. The Independent reported, “Irrfan Khan has eyes, hooded and deep brown, that will live forever. They give him the ability to weave magic, to recite poetry without moving his lips.”
