Dilip Vengsarkar Criticized Sydney Test Pitch: Former Indian cricket team captain Dilip Vengsarkar has criticized the pitch of Sydney Cricket Ground for the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Let us tell you, Australia had won this match by 6 wickets in just three days. This pitch was favorable for fast bowlers and 17 wickets fell on the first day of the match. The result of this match came in only 1141 balls, making it the shortest Test in terms of balls at the Sydney Cricket Ground since 1896.
Vengsarkar wants the ICC, which organizes the World Test Championship, to take charge of the pitches for Test cricket as well. In the white ball tournaments organized by ICC, it is responsible for the pitches. Vengsarkar believes that by doing this, good quality Test cricket can be provided for the fans who want to watch Tests.
Speaking to Times of India, Dilip Vengsarkar said, “The quality of the pitch in Sydney was poor. Just like some of the (turning) wickets we offer for Tests in India are poor. I think now is the time The point is, if you want to see good quality cricket, you have to ensure good pitches at the highest level.”
Vengsarkar further said, “Now is the time for ICC to keep an eye on the preparation of Test match wickets. They should send their pitch experts/curators to each Test staging center at least 10 days before the Test. This is necessary so that “People get value for their money, and sports, especially Test cricket, becomes popular.”
Vengsarkar further warned, “If you don’t do this, each country will prepare poor quality pitches to ensure maximum points for the World Test Championship. The whole purpose of organizing the WTC has been defeated.”
Vengsarkar criticized the Sydney pitch, saying, “Sydney’s pitch was favorable for fast bowlers. It is difficult to bat on this kind of strip. It is easy to criticize the batsmen for not scoring runs, but the truth is that the pitch was poor. There was so much grass on the pitch that cows could graze on it. Unfortunately for us, (Jasprit) Bumrah got injured, otherwise Australia would not have been able to chase 162 runs. Want to see him out at 150 or 180? “People come to watch good cricket.”
