Ravi Shastri Want To See Rohit And Kohli Playing Domestic Cricket: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri wants that captain Rohit Sharma, who is struggling in Test cricket, and veteran batsman Virat Kohli can prove by playing in Ranji Trophy that they have the drive to succeed in this format. Rohit and Kohli failed miserably in the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Australia took advantage of India’s poor batting and won the series 3-1. After the Indian team lost the series, head coach Gautam Gambhir had stressed the importance of domestic cricket. The Indian team will play its next Test in June this year but Shastri also believes that Rohit and Kohli should play Ranji Trophy.
Shastri said in ‘ICC Review’, ‘If there is any shortcoming in his game then he should go back and improve by playing domestic cricket. When you play Test match cricket for such a long time, it is important to play domestic cricket for two reasons. Firstly, you have to keep pace with the current generation and secondly you can contribute in improving the young players.
He said, ‘This team’s record is not good even on pitches that support spinners. If there is a good spinner in the rival team then he can trouble you. When asked about the future of the Indian Test team, he said, ‘Passion and enthusiasm are required to remain in the team. One is 36 years old (Kohli) and the other is 38 years old (Rohit), both of them know how much passion they have for the game.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that Kohli should take rest from the game to recover from the bad phase. Kohli took a break of one month in 2022 and he benefited from it.
Ponting said, ‘Virat is trying more than necessary. Many times it happens that when you put more effort than necessary, you get less success.
