Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir has taken place in recent years. 26 tourists were killed and many others were injured in this cowardly terrorist attack on Tuesday, April 22. According to sources in the central agency, the restricted Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET)-The Resistance Front (TRF) has taken responsibility for the attack.
TRF is believed to have supported Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and is a proxy of Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar and the mastermind of 26/11. Taking responsibility for the attack on Tuesday, the group said that “demographic change” is being done in the area and this is the reason for the attack.
What is The Resistance Front or TRF?
The Resistance Front (TRF) is a proxy terrorist organization of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which was formed in 2019 after the cancellation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. It started as an online unit. But it became increasingly developed into a completely terrorist group by combining elements of existing organizations like Tehreek-e-Millat Islamia and Ghaznavi Hind.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, TRF “has been involved in planning to plan and provide weapons to support and support banned terrorist organizations of Jammu and Kashmir, to provide arms to support banned terrorist organizations, recruit terrorists, infiltrate terrorists and smuggling arms and drugs from across the border.”
TRF was declared a terrorist organization in January 2023 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act i.e. UAPA. Security officials believe that TRF was formed to give Kashmiri extremism more “local” and “secular” face. According to the Indian Express report, an official said, “Lashkar and Jaish-e-Mohammed had religious meanings and Pakistan did not want so. They wanted to show Kashmir terrorism indigenous. Therefore, he opted for ‘resistance/ resistance’-which has some trend in global politics.”
TRF commander Sheikh Sajjad Gul has been called a terrorist under UAPA and Indian agencies have rewarded him. This terrorist group has issued threats to journalists in the Kashmir Valley and is associated with many high-profile attacks, making it one of the most active terrorist organizations in the region today.
