A look at PM Modi’s agenda during a two -day Mauritius visit

1. PM Modi is visiting the island nation at the invitation of his Mauritius counterpart Naveen Chandra Ramgulam. PM Naveen Chandra warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport. During his visit, the Indian Prime Minister will hold meetings with the top leadership of Mauritius and both countries will sign a number of agreements cooperating in the areas of building, trade and across the border financial crime.

7. In addition, a memorandum (MoU) will be signed between the Indian National Ocean Information Services Center and the Prime Minister’s Office of Mauritius. At the same time, India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Mauritius’s Financial Crime Commission will also sign an MoU to deal with the crime associated with finance. The purpose of this agreement is to increase cooperation in intelligence and technical assistance to deal with money laundering and its related crimes.

In October last year, Britain announced its decision to hand over the sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius after more than half a century under a historic agreement.
