Due to accumulation of about one feet of snow in Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham of Uttarkashi, the cold has increased in the lower areas also. Due to snowfall, a drop in temperature has been recorded in other parts of the state also. Meanwhile, many visuals are coming from Yamunotri Dham, which are becoming quite viral on social media. In a video, it can be seen that a priest is blowing conch amidst snowfall. This video is being shared extensively on many social media platforms.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy snowfall and rain in Uttarkashi district. According to the department, there is a possibility of rapid change in weather in the areas at an altitude of 2200 meters in the district. Heavy snowfall and rain may occur in these areas, which may worsen the cold and affect traffic.
The Meteorological Department in Uttarakhand has issued a yellow alert in the state for December 29. In view of the cold wave and snowfall, all government and private educational institutions of Dehradun district will remain closed till January 4.
In view of the accumulation of snow on the roadways and the danger of accidents, additional arrangements are being made regarding the traffic system. This alert is especially for Gangotri, Yamunotri and other high altitude areas, where there is a higher possibility of snowfall and rain.
The district administration has given orders to deal with the emergency situation. Under the order, the health department, police, local administration, and disaster management teams have been asked to remain alert. Besides, instructions have been given to Revenue Department, Village Development Officer (VDO), Village Head and other concerned officers to keep vigil in their respective areas. These officers have been asked to take prompt action in emergency situations and remain alert to save the local community from any kind of crisis.
In view of the increasing cold and bad weather in Uttarkashi, the district administration has especially forbidden children and elderly people from going out. Permission has been given to go out only for urgent work, so that diseases caused by cold and snowfall can be prevented. At the same time, special instructions have been given to the Public Works Department to increase their surveillance in snowfall areas and take necessary measures to reduce slippage on the roads.
