The Punjab government on Monday held Senior IPS officer G.K. Nageshwar Rao was appointed as the Chief Director of the State Vigilance Bureau. A government order states that Rao, a 1995 batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), will replace Special Director General of Police Varinder Kumar. According to the order, Varinder Kumar will now report to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab. Earlier, the Punjab government had removed the Vigilance Chief.

Deputy Commissioner suspended on corruption charges

The Punjab government has taken another such major action. The AAP government on Monday suspended Muktsar Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Tripathi after receiving ‘serious complaints of corruption’. A spokesman for the Punjab government said that this is a major action of Bhagwant Man government against corruption in the state.

Abhijeet Kaplish has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Muktsar.

The spokesman said that the state government had received ‘serious complaints of corruption’ against the Deputy Commissioner, after which a thorough investigation was conducted against the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official.

He said, “On the basis of preliminary investigation, the state government has suspended the Deputy Commissioner of Shri Muktsar Sahib with immediate effect.”

Removed from post, vigilance investigation started

The spokesman said that the Deputy Commissioner has been removed from his post and vigilance investigation has been started against him.

He said, “This reflects the unwavering commitment of the Punjab government to ensure complete transparency, accountability and honesty in public service distribution. Since corrupt conduct weakens public confidence, weakens institutions and hinders the development of the state, the top priority is being given to prevent this danger. ”
