New Delhi:
If you do banking on the Internet, then this news is very important for you. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked all banks to shift their existing websites to the new ‘dot bank dot in’ (.Bank.in) domain. These changes will have to be completed by 31 October 2025. RBI has taken this step so that the fraud in digital payment and online banking can be prevented.
Why is it necessary to go to ‘dot bank dot in’ domain?
Frauds like fake websites and ‘fishing’ have increased rapidly in the digital world. People often go to fake bank websites and share their personal data, which stole money. To prevent this, RBI has decided that the website of all banks should now be on a special and reliable domain i.e. .bank.in. This will immediately understand the user that this is the real bank website.
Who has the responsibility of this change?
RBI said that the responsibility of starting and implementing this new domain has been given to IDRBT (Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology). IDRBT will guide banks in the entire process of applying and adopting new domains. Along with this, NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India), which comes under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, will register this .bank.in domain.
RBI has advised all banks to start the process of this change immediately and complete it by 31 October 2025. If banks want any help, they can contact IDRBT at sahyog@idrbt.ac.in.
Why is this beneficial for users?
This new domain will benefit common customers that whenever they see the website of .Bank.in, they will be sure that it is the real bank website. This will improve their online transactions and security of personal data.
This decision of RBI is a big step towards making digital banking more safe. Now when you go to a bank’s website in the coming time, then note that its domain is .bank.in – so that you are safe and do not become a victim of any online fraud.
