Reports of cancellation of projects in Sri Lanka false and misleading: Adani Group

Adaani Group on Friday dismissed all the reports that claimed that 484 MW wind power projects have been canceled to Mannar in Sri Lanka and Adaani Group companies in Poonri. Describing such reports as ‘false and misleading’, the company spokesperson said that the group is committed to investing about one billion dollars in Sri Lanka’s Green Energy Sector.

Adaani Group spokesperson said in his statement, “Reports of the cancellation of 484 MW wind power projects of Adai Group in Mannar and Poonri are false and misleading. We clearly say that PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) is not canceled Has been done.”

The spokesperson further said, “The decision taken by the Sri Lankan cabinet on January 2 to revaluate the sanctioned tariff in May 2024 is part of a general review process, especially a new government ensures that the terms of the deal are the terms of their current priorities And correspond to energy policies. ”

A spokesperson for Adani Group said that Adani Group is committed to investing one billion dollars in Sri Lanka’s Green Energy Sector. Sri Lanka entered into a 20 -year power purchase agreement with the company for two wind power stations developed by Adani Green Energy.

In February 2023, Adani Green Energy was approved to invest $ 442 million to develop a 484 MW wind energy plant in Mannar Town and Poonri villages. Both of them are located in the northern province of Sri Lanka. As per the agreement, the company will be paid 8.26 cents per kWh (KWH) per kW.

Adani Group is constructing a terminal at a cost of $ 700 million at Sri Lanka’s largest port in Colombo.
