New Delhi:
The banned group is set to launch a political party from Jamaat-e-Islami Ramadan, named Jammu and Kashmir Justice Development Front. For the formation of this party, an application has been sent to the Election Commission for recognition and allocation of election symbol.
Shamim Ahmed Thokar, head of the group’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, told NewsDeskReport over phone that he has sent an application to the Election Commission and selected the name of Jammu and Kashmir Justice Development Front for the party. At the same time, he has requested to allot the election symbol of scales.
Shamim Ahmed Thokar said that the ground work has been done because his advisory council has been approved to form the party. We need to enter the political field for the betterment of our region. The members of the Jamaat contested the assembly elections independent last year. This time everyone has been consulted and a decision has been taken.
There is speculation that Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party will suffer the most loss due to Jamaat’s arrival in politics. Shamim said that Jamaat supporters are disciplined. I believe that some parties benefited from it, but now it will change.
Jammu and Kashmir has more than 5,000 members of Ama. Bangladesh banned Jamaat in August last year after a large scale protests, killing more than 200 people.
After the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019, the Center banned the organization for five years in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The ban was extended for five years in February 2024. Earlier, Jamaat was banned twice in 1975 and 1990.
While banning the ban, the Union Home Ministry said that the group was found to be involved in anti-India propaganda to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir and promote terrorism, which is harmful to India’s sovereignty, security and integrity.
