PM Modi on India vs Pakistan Cricket Match: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that he is not a cricket expert, but the results show which of India and Pakistan are better. He gave a clear context of better performance against India’s arch -rivals in recent years. In football, he described veteran Diego Maradona as the “true hero” of his time and recalled his journey to Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, where he saw a deep love for the game among the residents, calling his territory ‘Mini Brazil’.
“If we talk about the past, a name that was always different in the 1980s was Maradona. For that generation, he was seen as a true hero. And if you ask today’s generation, they would immediately (Leoneal) Messi’s name,” he told Podcaster Lex Fridman, when he was asked about his favorite football player. Regarding a better cricket team between India and Pakistan, PM Modi responded with humor and said that they are not experts, but suggested that recent results could be answered by it. India decisively defeated Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match last month, which was the latest in a winning series against neighbors.
PM Modi also considered Maradona’s intensive impact on global football and called him a player who gave a new look to the game with his creativity and talent. Recalling his journey to Shahdol, Modi said that he saw about 80 to 100 people including children and older youth in his game.
“I asked where he is from, and he said that he is from ‘Mini Brazil’. When I asked what ‘Mini Brazil’ meant, he told me that every family of his village has been playing football for four generations, and about 80 national players have come out of his village. His annual football match has about 20,000 to 25,000 audiences from nearby areas,” he said.
The Prime Minister praised the strong football culture in the region and said that such passions have the ability to inspire future generations and pursue sports development in the country. She especially praised India’s women’s football team and said that the men’s team is also doing well.
