Former captain Kapil Dev
The date of selection of the team for the Champions Trophy is coming closer, but crores of fans are busy in choosing their respective teams, so the discussion is about captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who failed miserably in the recent Australia tour. Statements regarding Kohli are also seen and heard here and there from somewhere. Now former great all-rounder Kapil Dev said here on Monday that both of them are such big players that they can decide on their own future.
On the Australia tour, Kohli could score only 190 runs with one century in nine innings and was repeatedly caught out on the ball going outside the off stump. Captain Rohit Sharma’s figures were worse here and he could score only 31 runs in five innings of three matches. He was out of the fifth test match due to poor form.
When former great Indian player Kapil Dev was asked about the future of these players, he said, ‘Virat and Rohit are very big players and let them decide their own future in the game.’ In Rohit’s absence on the Australia tour, Jasprit Bumrah captained the Indian team in two matches.
When asked about the contenders for captaincy in the team in place of Rohit, the World Cup winning captain said, ‘There should not be any controversy in this, the current captain had also come in someone’s place. Whoever becomes the captain should get full time. The Indian team was disappointed by the batsmen as well as the bowlers on this tour. Apart from Bumrah, no other bowler failed to impress. Bumrah also could not bowl in the second innings due to injury in the fifth test, which made it very easy for Australia to achieve the small target. Bumrah bowled about 150 overs on this tour and took 32 wickets.
