Rohit Sharma on his Captaincy Promise To BCCI In Meeting
Rohit Sharma on captaincy removal: Head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma and selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar held a meeting with BCCI officials on Saturday to review the recent Australia tour. In this review meeting, the future of batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was discussed in depth. Rohit’s captaincy was also discussed in the meeting and according to the report of Dainik Jagran, Rohit has expressed his intention to remain the captain of the team for a few more ‘months’. Questions were being raised about Rohit’s long-term Test future due to his poor form with the bat during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit also decided to keep himself on the bench for the final match in Sydney, although India lost that match also.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, Bumrah’s name was proposed as Rohit’s successor during the meeting, but some people are skeptical about his name. The special doubt that was raised in Bumrah’s name was whether he would be able to lead the team in the 5-match Test series or not. Bumrah was a part of India’s tour of Australia, where he participated in all 5 Test matches and led the team in two of them. However, he suffered a back injury in the final Test in Sydney and could not even bowl in the second innings. Due to such fitness problems with the fast bowler, the top officials have doubts about his future as captain.
