London:
Labor Party MP Tulip Siddiq, niece of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, resigned from the post of Britain’s Finance Minister on Tuesday. Siddiq (42) was last week accused of corruption and lack of transparency regarding the use of his properties in London.
Siddiq said in a letter sent to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, “I want to assure you that I have acted in these matters with complete transparency and on the advice of the authorities and will continue to do so.” However, it is clear that continuing on the post of Finance Minister may hinder the work of the government… Therefore, I have decided to resign from the post of minister.
The British Prime Minister responded by accepting the resignation, and Downing Street (Prime Minister’s Office) confirmed Labor MP Emma Reynolds would replace Siddiq as Finance Minister.
He said, “In accepting your resignation, I would like to make it clear that I have been told that no case of violation of the ministerial code has been found against you and no evidence of financial irregularities has been found on your part.”
