Dhaka, Bangladesh:
The interim government of Bangladesh has said that there is no plan to impose any ban on the Awami League, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political party, who escaped. This decision of the caretaker government leader and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus can pass the students revolutionaries who revolted the government of Sheikh Hasina by rebelling last year.
On behalf of the students, Sheikh Hasina’s party has been accused of violation of comprehensive human rights during her 15 -year tenure. During last year’s agitation, the protesters were also accused of violent action, in which more than 800 people were killed.
What are the students asking for?
Student leaders are still mourning the death of their colleagues. They demand that Awami League be declared illegal. This party has played an important role in the history of Bangladesh. The party played a role in the 1971 bloody freedom struggle under the leadership of Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to the AFP report, it was also said, “However, under its leadership, the persons who have many allegations against murder and humanity will be prosecuted in Bangladesh courts.”
A Tribunal (Tribunal) in Dhaka has already issued an arrest warrant for Hasina and her colleagues.
A Fact-Finding Mission of the United Nations Rights Office said last month that Hasina’s government was responsible for systematic attacks and murders on protesters in an attempt to retain power last year. It found “the appropriate basis to believe that there have been crimes against humanity such as murder, torture, imprisonment and other inhuman acts”.
Since his withdrawal from his post, the students have constantly demanded that the party be banned before the election of the new government to be held till June next year. However, the interim government has denied this.
