South Korea’s fire agency said on Sunday that so far one flight attendant and one passenger have been rescued after the plane crashed. There were 181 people on board the plane. “At present, two people have been rescued, including a passenger and a flight attendant,” the national fire agency said in a statement. Additionally, the agency also said that 32 fire engines and dozens of firefighters have been deployed to the accident site at Muan Airport.

The emergency office told the Associated Press that a landing gear failure caused the crash. The accident is believed to have been caused by ‘bird contact, resulting in landing gear failure.’ Acting President Choi Sang-mok has called for mobilizing all resources to rescue the passengers. “All concerned agencies should mobilize all available resources to rescue the personnel,” he directed officials in a statement.
Second major plane crash in a week
This week itself, on Wednesday, a passenger plane going from Kazakhstan to Russia with 110 passengers on board crashed near the airport in Aktau city. Due to this accident the plane caught fire. 38 people lost their lives in this accident. The plane, an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer ERJ-190, was flying from Baku, Azerbaijan to Grozny in Chechnya, Russia. Due to dense fog it was diverted towards Aktau.
