The snow storm is wreaking havoc in America. Till now, 60 million i.e. 6 crore people have been affected due to this terrible storm, while the number of deaths is also said to be increasing. The dangerous snow storm completely disrupted life in more than a dozen US states, affecting more than 60 million people from Kansas in Central America to New Jersey on the East Coast.
Snowfall up to 18 inches
The weather has become extremely cold in large parts of America due to heavy snowfall and ice storms. According to the report of Xinhua news agency, transport was badly affected on Monday due to severe conditions. “For some, this could be the heaviest snowfall in more than a decade,” NOAA said in a statement. Up to 18 inches of snowfall was recorded in Chapman and St. George, Kansas, as of Monday morning, while Cameron, Missouri and Mason, West Virginia received more than 10 inches of snowfall.
More than 1,900 flights canceled
According to flight tracker platform FlightAware, more than 1,900 flights were canceled in the US on Monday. As for some of the country’s major airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York experienced delays of an average of 46 minutes, leading to the cancellation of more than 104 flights. Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) experienced delays of an average of 50 minutes, leading to the cancellation of more than 140 flights.
Many people died due to the storm
Rail travel was also badly affected due to the storm. The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) canceled more than 50 trains. More than 250,000 customers were without power as of 4:20 p.m., according to outage tracker PowerOutage.us. It was reported that at least four people died and dozens of others were injured in storm-related traffic accidents.
