The Indian stock market opened with a rise today on the last trading day of the week. In early trade on Friday, January 10, BSE Sensex was trading with a gain of 201.46 points (0.26%) at 77,821.67 points, while the Nifty 50 index remained strong with a gain of 47.50 points (0.20%) at 23,574.00 points.
Shares of Adani Total Gas registered a gain of more than 2% in early trade. This jump was seen after the company announced a 20% increase in its Administered Price Mechanism (APM) gas allocation.
The morning started well in the stock market, but later a decline was seen. At 10:06 am, BSE Sensex fell 475.21 points (0.61%) to 77,145.00, while Nifty 50 also fell 146.40 points (0.62%) to 23,380.10.
Buying was seen in the IT sector after the strong third quarter results of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The IT sector was trading with a growth of more than 2 percent. At the same time, TCS shares jumped 3.7 percent to Rs 4,186 per share in early trade.
Nifty Bank was down by 67.95 points or 0.14 percent at 49,435.55. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was trading at 55,472.90, down 273 points or 0.49 percent. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index was down 101.50 points or 0.56 per cent at 18,016.85.
Among Sensex listed stocks, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCLTech, Tata Motors, Nestle India and Bajaj Finance were the top gainers. Whereas, IndusInd Bank, Zomato, NTPC, SBI, PowerGrid, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Titan and Asian Paints were the top losers.
