On Sunday, Sourav (20), who reached his village Chandiwala in Ferozepur district of Punjab, said that on January 27, when he was trying to cross the border and enter America, he was caught by American officials. He left home from home on December 17 last year. Sourav said, ‘We were kept in a camp (custody center) for 18 days. Our mobile phones were taken. The day before, we were told that we will be taken to another camp. When we were placed on the plane, he said that we are being taken to India.
Lend money from relatives
Sourav told that his family spent Rs 45-46 lakh to send him abroad. Two acres of farming land was sold and money was borrowed from relatives. Regarding his visit, Sourav said that he was taken to the US border via Amsterdam, Panama and Mexico. Asked if he was put in a fetters on his way to Amritsar, Sourav said, “Yes, we were handcuffed and chains were tied to our feet.”
Handcare in hands and chains in feet
Harjit Singh, a resident of Khanowal Ghuman village in Gurdaspur district, was deported from America along with his cousin. He said, ‘We reached home at around six in the morning. We were caught while crossing the US border on 27 January and kept in the detention center for 18 days. We were deported on 13 February and handcuffs were put in our hands and chains in the feet. Harjeet told that the family spent 90 lakh rupees on his and his cousin to America. We were assured that we would be taken to America in a legal manner, but it did not happen.
Mantaj Singh (22), a resident of Bodal village in Hoshiarpur district, said that as soon as he was trying to enter America, he was caught by the US border patrol. He was taken there through ‘Danki Route’. ‘Danki Route’ is an illegal and risky way used by migrants to enter America.
Travel agent cheated
The parents of Sahil Preet Singh, a resident of Behabal Bahadur village in Kapurthala district, said that he spent Rs 40-45 lakh to send his son abroad. Sahil’s mother Harvinder Kaur claimed that a travel agent cheated her. He said that the family had arranged for money by selling farming land and gold ornaments and borrowing from their relatives. He also demanded the Punjab government to give jobs to his son and register a criminal case against the fraudulent agent. Similarly, Jaswinder Singh of Dharamkot village in Moga district left for America about 45 days ago. A sarpanch from his village said that the family sold one and a half acres of land and raised Rs 45 lakh and gave him to a travel agent, which cheated him.
This is the second batch of Indians exiled by the administration led by US President Donald Trump after action on illegal migrants. Official sources said that the third aircraft is likely to reach India again today with 157 exiled.
Two were accused of murder
Meanwhile, two youths from Rajpura in Patiala district, one of the illegal Indian migrants exiled by the US, were arrested in a murder case. Confirming the arrest of the accused from Amritsar Airport, Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh said that accused Sandeep Singh alias Sunny and Pradeep Singh were wanted in a murder case registered in 2023. A case was registered against Sandeep and four others in Rajpura in June 2023. During the investigation, the name of another partner of Sandeep Pradeep was added to the FIR. A team led by Rajpura police station in -charge was sent to Amritsar Airport on Saturday to arrest both.
