Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory regarding the arrangements and restrictions to be implemented during the New Year’s Eve celebrations across the national capital (especially in Connaught Place). An officer gave this information. A senior official said that adequate number of traffic personnel will be deployed in different areas of the city. The focus will be mainly on markets, nearby malls and areas like Connaught Place and Hauz Khas where people come to participate in the celebrations.
Another official said the Delhi Traffic Police has made special traffic arrangements for areas around the Connaught Place area as a huge crowd is expected to gather in the area to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
There will be restrictions in Connaught Place from 8 pm onwards
Restrictions will remain in force in the Connaught Place area from 8 pm on Tuesday till the end of the New Year celebrations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dhal Singh said that this will apply to all private and public vehicles of transport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said that strict action will be taken against other activities including drunk driving, speeding, bike stunting, reckless driving, zig-zag and dangerous driving.
Police said vehicles were diverted from areas around Mandi House, Bengali Market, northern end of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deendayal Upadhyay Marg crossing, RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gol Market, GPO, Kasturba Gandhi Road etc. towards Connaught Place. Will not be allowed to go any other way.
Singh said that vehicular movement will not be allowed in the inner, central or outer circle of Connaught Place, except for those holding valid passes.
Vehicles will be able to park here
Police said Gol Dak Khana, Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind Akashwani, Baroda House to Mandi House on Copernicus Marg, Minto Road and Press Road area on DD Upadhyay Marg, Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, KG on Copernicus Lane. Road- Drivers can park their vehicles at Ferozshah Crossing and Windsor Place.
Limited parking space will be available near Connaught Place on first come first serve basis. He said that unauthorized parked vehicles will be towed away and fined.
Advice on using public transport
He said that elaborate arrangements have been made in and around India Gate for traffic regulation for both pedestrians and motorists.
An official said that in case of large number of pedestrian movements, vehicles may not be allowed to pass through C-Hexagon, India Gate area. He said that in case of heavy rush of pedestrians, vehicles should be diverted around Q-Point, Sunehri Masjid, Rajpath Rafi Marg, Windsor Place, KG Marg-Ferozeshah Road, Mandi House and Rajinder Prasad Road-Janpath and Mathura Road-Purana Qila Road etc. Can be folded from.
He said visitors have been advised to use public transport as there is shortage of parking space at India Gate.
