Supreme Court sought a response from the Center on a petition for the safety of women

New Delhi:
On the petition seeking all India guidelines for the safety of women, the Supreme Court questioned the Central Government as to why there is no mechanism to provide the facility to register women online. The court also said that such a system can solve problems related to the jurisdiction of the police station and women may also be eliminated to go to the police station.

A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh asked the central government to file a counter affidavit within 6 weeks. The court directed to file a detailed affidavit which shows the attitude of all the concerned ministries from the Center. Along with this, the petitioner was advised to take suggestions from women lawyers across the country, especially women practicing in state high courts and collect them and present them in court.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mahalakshmi Pavani on behalf of the petitioner Supreme Court Women’s Advocate Association said that all the defendants did not react to the petition after the notice was issued. At the same time, the Center’s lawyer said that the issues raised in the PIL are very widespread and they sought time to file a counter affidavit.

Justice Kant told the Center that there will be no obstruction in the technical preparation of prayers, as the issues raised are practical. The bench also raised the question as to why there is no online system to enable women to file a complaint, so that issues of jurisdiction can be resolved and women do not need to go to the police station.
