Chennai:
BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai on Monday said the state song, ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’, which is an invocation of the Tamil Mother, was never sung before the Governor’s address in the Tamil Nadu state assembly until 1991. Let us tell you that Governor RN Ravi’s address was to be held in the House on Monday, but the Governor walked out of the House accusing him of disrespect towards the Constitution and the national anthem.
After this, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Annamalai has accused the state government of diverting public anger. “It has become a tradition for the DMK government to divert attention from the public anger over its misgovernance and hooliganism and blame the Tamil Nadu Governor for violating rules,” the BJP leader said in a post on ‘
He said the Governor had requested to sing the national anthem after ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ (invocation of the Tamil Mother) was played, but he was ‘refused’. In this context, Annamalai said that the DMK government should be reminded of the aspects related to this. He said that in 1970, during the DMK government led by then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, the government had directed recitation of ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ at the beginning of all government and educational functions and public programs.
“However, ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ was never sung before the Governor’s address in the state assembly of Tamil Nadu till 1991,” the BJP leader said. He said it was sung for the first time in July 1991, when Jayalalitha was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. ‘Tamil Thai Vazhathu’ and the national anthem were played at the beginning and end of the Governor’s address respectively.
