The country is in danger, anarchy is our own product: Bangladesh Army Chief Warned

Dhaka:
Bangladesh Chief General Waker-e-Zaman has accepted the problems of increasing law and order in his country. He said that a socio-political crisis has arisen due to political upheaval, due to which citizens are busy in defaming each other. This problem has become so serious that immediate attention is required to solve it.

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-U-Zaman said at a function that the growing chaos in the country is our own. He also highlighted the deficiencies of the unskilled police force, due to which the officers are scared. General Zaman said that the law and order situation has become so bad that the armed forces will have to take even more responsibility.

The army chief said that there is an immediate need for national unity and institutional discipline. He said that the constant and rapid growing internal discord in the society puts the sovereignty of Bangladesh in a huge danger.

The Army Chief of Bangladesh has appealed to the Bangladeshi citizens to forget their differences and protect the freedom and integrity of the country. He warned that if citizens continue to fight among themselves and injure each other, then the freedom and integrity of the country will be in danger. The army chief also said that he has no other aspiration and he has received a lot for the last seven-eight months. Meanwhile, there is a plan to form an interim government in Bangladesh, as Army Chief Vakar-Uj Zaman has confirmed.

Without naming any political group or faction, he said that stakeholders are busy accusing each other, so mischievous elements seem to be favorable. They believe that they can avoid anything.

General Zaman said, “In the last August, the benefits of the student-linked revolution that demolished the Sheikh Hasina government were also at risk.” General Waker-Uz-Zaman took over as Army Chief of Bangladesh after Hasina fled to India amidst extensive protests in the country.

The increase in violence, barbarity, riots and other criminal activities in Bangladesh has made the country’s situation serious. By February, the situation became so bad that security forces had to start an aggressive campaign called ‘Operation Devil Hunt’. Under this campaign, 8,600 people have been arrested in less than three weeks. The interim government of Bangladesh has accused these persons of trying to “destabilize the country”. This situation is a major threat to the security and stability of the country.

Bangladesh has a long history of military coup, in which power has been overturned many times. After Sheikh Hasina’s withdrawal from power, the armed forces were provided judicial powers, including arrest of citizens like police. Meanwhile, amid allegations of forcibly disappearing, murder and torture of citizens, the army chief warned that such cases should be investigated.

The army chief, who took the oath of the interim government, urged the people to support the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus and assured them as soon as possible. He said that it will take 18 months to hold elections, but Professor Yunus is trying his best to keep us united. Yunus has said that Bangladesh will have general elections at the end of 2025 or in early 2026.

Prominent student protest leader Nahid Islam has resigned from the interim government cabinet before the expected launch of a new political party on Friday, 28 February.
