Kundan Shashiraj’s short film ‘The Sadist’ shows the truth of the media that often TV. Hide in the brightness of the screen. The film begins with a mango scene- a man is having dinner and news anchor Aman Dev Sinha (Danish Hussain) is having hot debate on TV. As the story moves forward, the audience sees the bitter truth behind the studio- where the news is sold and morality often gives up. Aman gets the news of his wife’s death, yet he continues the sensational debate. This visual exposes that merciless face of journalism, where sensations and humanity are left behind.

Danish Hussain’s character Aman is in a gray shade- he does not shout, but with a calm and influential language, the audience convinces his words. The film tells how the way of presenting the truth sometimes becomes the biggest lie. Director Kundan Shashiraj says that the film wants to go to the root of increasing polarization and hatred in the society. He believes that many times the media becomes the main source of winding this hatred.

The film made in a low budget was shot in just three days and the post-production was completed in four months. The artists worked without fees- this film is made up of a passion, a motive and a desire for change. ‘The Sadist’ is an important film, which raises a strong question on today’s media and its responsibility. This film states that if the direction of the media is not changed, then the forces dividing the society will become stronger.
