Why can we cancel the visa appointments?
US Embassy has caught a large fraud in its visa appointment system. Some people in India were booking fake appointments through “bots” and “agents”. Bots i.e. automated software programs, using which some people were taking a visa appointment without adopting the right procedure.
What was the problem with this?
- Real applicants were not getting slots.
- Agents were blocking these slots and selling them at high prices.
- The entire visa appointment system was getting disturbed.
When this case was caught, US Embassy took strict steps without delay, saying, “We will not tolerate any kind of fixing or bots in Visa appointments. Therefore, these 2,000 appointments are being canceled and the accounts that booked them will also be suspended.” That is, this is not just a matter of canceling visa, but an attempt is being made to improve the entire system.
Which people will affect it?
- Now the question arises that will it affect only those people whose appointments have been canceled? The answer is – no! This can affect thousands of visa applicants in India.
- B1 and B2 Visa Applicants: These visa are for business and tourism. Already these visa waiting ranges from 800 to 1,000 days. Now if the appointments are canceled, then waiting time can be longer.
- Students: Student visa appointments are also decreasing before. If the system becomes more strict, the visa approval rate may also fall. Student visa rejection rate has increased in the last few years.
- H1B and Work Visa: Thousands of people from India apply for the H1B visa every year, but now if the system is getting tight due to fraud, then Indians who get H1B visa can also have difficulties.
What is the Government of India doing?
The Government of India has spoken to America before this visa delay. In 2022, S Jaishankar discussed the issue with the then US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, but then the US made an excuse for Covid-19 and said that there was a delay due to lack of staff. Then in January 2025, when Jaishankar Donald went to the oath of Trump, he raised the issue again. This time we spoke to the new US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. India clearly told the US that – “If the visa process of Indians has not improved, it will also affect the trade and relationships of the two countries!” Now it remains to be seen whether America takes this issue seriously or not.
Is your visa also in danger?
If you have applied visa through an agent or third party, then be alert! US Embassy is now investigating all appointments. If your appointment is booked through a bot or agent, then it can also be canceled. Visa Approval Rate can decrease, that is, strict questions can be asked during the interview. Students and work visa applicants will have to apply with clean documentation. So the essence of the whole matter is that the main reason for the 2,000 appointments that the US has canceled is frauds and bots. This will also cause loss of those people who were waiting to get the appointment in the right way. The Government of India is trying to solve this issue, but no concrete solution is visible yet.
