When Ram Gopal Varma decided to build a fire, his first idea was to keep it in the setting of modern times. And they believe that if they had made it honestly like Satya, it could have done wonders. However, things deteriorated then. The film was never made in the way he thought. In a new conversation, the filmmaker revealed the real reason behind making a film based on Sholay. He joked Amitabh Bachchan, Sasha Sippy and some others for the failure of the film.
Talking on his YouTube channel game changers with Komal Nahata, RVI brightened that the story revolves around a mill owner who wants to avenge his dead son, and hits a gangster to kill his son who killed his son. He said, “If I had shot it seriously like Satya, I am sure it would have done well. But I did not do it.” Explaining the reason behind the disturbances in the story, the filmmaker shared, “The idea of making the sequel to the film came due to GP Sippy’s grandson Sasha Sippy.
He once called me and said that his grandfather wants to meet me. He said that he has a story for the Sholay sequel. “In which Gabbar Singh becomes the father of a child with Helen’s character. After years, ‘Junior Gabbar’ wants to take revenge on Viru and Basanti’s family. However, it had planning to cast Jackie Chan. However, Verma felt this plan absurd and he refused to be a part of it. A poster designer of the designer made an image of Gabbar Singh based on the look of Amitabh Bachchan in the government.
RVV jokingly convicted poster designer Sasha Sippy and even Amitabh Bachchan for the failure of the film, but eventually took responsibility himself. The film was released in 2007.
