Devajit Saikia Set To Replace Jay Shah As New BCCI Secretary: Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be elected unopposed as BCCI Secretary and Treasurer respectively at the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 12, as they are the only two candidates in the final list of contesting elections. The list of candidates taking part in the elections was prepared on Tuesday by BCCI election officer and former CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) of India, Achal Kumar Joti.
The last date for filing nominations ended last week while the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 2 pm on Tuesday. No candidate withdrew his name so the returning officer published the list of contesting candidates at 5 pm on Tuesday evening.
The elections will be held during the SGM on January 12 and the result will be declared on the same day, which is now a formality. Saikia has been working as the interim secretary of BCCI since Jay Shah took over as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1.
Bhatia filed nomination for the post of treasurer. The post was vacated by Ashish Shelar who was recently sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.
