Where does India stand?

India has slightly improved its coefficient of happiness, which has increased from 126 to the latest World Happiness Report in 2024, 118 in 2025. However, this ranking still holds India behind many conflicting countries including Ukraine, Mozambique and Iraq.

Among the neighboring countries of India, Nepal is ranked 92nd, followed by Pakistan 109th, China is 68th, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are 133rd and 134th respectively.

Most unhappy country

Afghanistan has been considered the most unhappy country in the world. The main reason for the lower ranking of the country is the conflicts faced by Afghan women, who said that their lives are becoming increasingly difficult.

After Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Lebanon are the second and third most unhappy countries respectively. These countries have faced important challenges including struggle, poverty and social unrest.
