Islamabad, Pakistan:
A journalist in Pakistan was kidnapped from his house in Islamabad on Wednesday, 26 March. This claim has been made by his family and lawyer. This is the latest attack on the freedom of the press in Pakistan.
The journalist’s mother -in -law has released a video that more than a dozen people attacked the house of journalist Muhammad Waheed Murad and took him with him.
According to the AFP report, Murad’s lawyer Iman Mazari filed a petition in the High Court of Islamabad on Wednesday. It alleged that unknown people were “possibly from intelligence agencies”. He came in double-cabin trucks which usually use intelligence agency officials.
Iman Mazari said that “the pattern of his kidnapping was the same … kidnappers, his way of working and the way he attacked the house in the dark of night, it makes it clear who they are.”
Let us know that in the 77 -year history of Pakistan, the country has been ruled by the army for many decades. The criticism of the army here has been seen as a long danger line. Rights groups have accused the secret intelligence agencies of Islamabad of “disappearing” critics. While the army denies this allegation.
Pakistani journalists have reported the growing state censorship in recent years and the public has started taking most of its news from social media. Farhan Malik, the founder of Pakistani Internet Media Channel Speed, was arrested last week on charges of “anti -national posts and fake news” under the stringent law.
This occurred the same week when the brothers of exiled journalist Ahmed Noorani were kidnapped from his family home after writing about the growing influence of the family of a powerful military head.
The criminalization of online propaganda has spread fear in Pakistan, and journalists are also concerned about the possible broader reach of this law. Let us know that Pakistan is ranked 152th out of 180 countries in the press independence index of reporters without Borders.
