What is birthright citizenship?

Birthright Citizenship is the legal right under which a child born in America gets American citizenship. This right is derived from the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which says that anyone born on American soil is an American citizen, whether his parents are American citizens or not. This right was passed in the year 1868 with the aim that all children born in America should get equal civil rights.

It states that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States. Donald Trump proposed abolishing birthright citizenship during his reign, but the US government has not officially abolished it until 2023. But now in Trump’s new executive order it has been decided to abolish this right. In such a situation, know what Trump’s new order says.

What does the new order say?

According to the new order, for children born in America to obtain citizenship, their parents will have to legally reside in America. That is, only those children will get citizenship, whose parents are legal residents of America or are citizens. This change will have a significant impact on those families who live in America illegally. Children of such families will not be able to acquire American citizenship.

Donald Trump had raised questions on birthright citizenship many times during his rule. He said that birthright citizenship should be abolished, so that children born in America illegally do not get American citizenship. However, this change has not been implemented yet. This order is likely to be effective till February 20.
