Large irregularities have been revealed in the ration distribution system in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. In the e-KYC (e-certification) conducted by the department, it was found that about 13,000 deceased beneficiaries were still taking advantage of the government ration scheme.
After irregularity in ration distribution, the names of the dead have been removed from the ration card management system. The names of 436 dead have been cut in total urban areas and 12,858 in rural areas. These were the deceased in whose name the family members were raising ration. After the Kovid-19 epidemic, many people were getting ration in a fake way despite being ineligible in the Central Government’s Free Ration Scheme.
In the case, the government has made e-KYC mandatory for all beneficiaries. Earlier its deadline was 31 March. Later it has been increased to 30 June. Ghazipur district has a total of 6,35,446 ration card holders. These include 27 lakh 86 thousand 243 beneficiaries. So far, only 82 percent of the beneficiaries have e-KYC.
It has to be seen whether this action will now bring transparency in the ration distribution system. By the way, all the beneficiaries have been instructed by the department to get e-KYC done at the earliest. Also, in case of being a deceased member in the family, please inform the department.
