Uttar Pradesh: Car thief attacked police constable in trying to escape, case registered

Gonda (UP):
A case has been registered against an unknown person for attacking a head constable in Gonda district. An official gave this information on Saturday. Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said that late Friday night, the police received information about the theft of Fortuner car from Siddharthnagar district and the investigation was intensified.

The officer said that at around 12 o’clock in the night, the police saw the car and tried to stop it, but the driver tried to crush a policeman, breaking the blockage and ran towards the bridge over the Bisuhi river.

When the police again laid siege to the area near the bridge, the driver left the vehicle and jumped into the bushes. The official said that in an attempt to catch him, the head constable Ravish Kumar chased him, but the accused attacked Kumar’s head with a revolver butt, injuring him and the vehicle thief escaped after getting a chance.

The Superintendent of Police said that he could not be caught despite a search operation overnight. The injured head constable was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he was discharged after first aid.

The police have recovered the stolen SUV and registered a case against the unknown under Section 109 (attempt to murder), 317 (2) (theft) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) at Mankapur police station. Police said that the head constable has been honored with a citation for his adventure.
