The “magnificent structure” that affected Mahindra is Raza Library of Rampur, which is more than 250 years old.
Mahindra reposts a tweet by historian Sam Delimple, who shared a picture of the building and called it “the most beautiful library of India”. Delimple wrote, “Rampur Library is probably the best protected initial modern library in the country: it is Pashto, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu and even about 30,000 rare manualists in Tamil.”
Reaposting her X handle, Mahindra wrote, “This is a great structure. I did not know at all about its existence. I am ashamed. In myself, it makes Rampur a special destination.”
According to the Indian culture website of the Government of India, Rampur Raza Library is one of the important library of South Asia. It is a treasure of Indo-Islamic education and art. This library was founded in 1774 by Nawab Faizullah Khan. The Nawab of Rampur was a great patron of education and scholar Ulema (Muslim scholars), poets, painters, calligners and musicians had their patronage.
This library has 17,000 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Pashto, Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi and Türkiye. It also has a good collection of pictures of pictures and palm leaves in various Indian languages. A collection of about 60,000 printed books is also available in Indian and foreign languages. It is located in the beautiful library Hamid Manzil, a European Mughal architectural miracle with the Italian sculpture gallery and roof roof.
