Ayyappa Temple: Ayyappa Temple is in Patnamatta district of Kerala state. This Periyar Tiger is on the Sabarimal mountain within the sanctuary. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ayyappan. Story of Ayyappa Temple

The story of Ayyappa temple is very famous and it is associated with the story of Lord Ayyappa. Lord Ayyappa is worshiped as the son of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. He met Rajasekhar, the king of Kerala, as a child near the Pamba river. King Rajasekhar had chosen this place for the construction of the temple only by asking Ayyappa God, which is known today as Sabarimala. After the construction of the temple, the king installed the idol of Lord Ayyappa and started worshiping him. Since then, the Sabarimala Temple has become one of the most famous temples of Lord Ayyappa and millions of devotees come here every year and worship Lord Ayyappa. Earlier women were not allowed to enter the temple between the ages of 10 and 50, but this rule has now changed and women can also enter the temple.

The tradition of wearing or going barefoot in Ayyappa temple has a special significance. This tradition is associated with the story of Lord Ayyappa and there are many reasons behind it:

  • Spiritual purification: According to the legend of Lord Ayyappa, he lived in a place where no one wore clothes. Therefore, devotees also have to follow the tradition of wearing clothes or going barefoot, which is a symbol of spiritual purification.
  • Symbol of equality: Without wearing clothes in the Ayyappa temple, the message is given that all people are equal and there should be no discrimination of any kind.
  • Renunciation of personal desires: The story of Lord Ayyappa states that he sacrificed his personal desires. Therefore, devotees also get inspiration to renounce their personal desires and they follow the tradition of wearing or going barefoot without clothes.
  • Moving towards natural life: Without wearing clothes in the Ayyappa temple, the message is given that we should move towards natural life and renounce the facilities of modern life.

What is the opposition

At the Lord Ayyappa temple in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, some male devotees entered the temple on Sunday, protesting against the long -standing practice. The devotees took this step to protest against the practice of being mandatory for male devotees to be mandatory for male devotees before entering the temple.
