IPL 2025 has not been good for young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal yet. This Rajasthan batsman has scored just 34 runs in 3 matches at an average of 11.33. Meanwhile, he has taken a surprising decision. According to the reports, Jaiswal has decided to quit Mumbai cricket and he will now be seen playing for Goa.
According to the report of the Indian Express, Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal wrote an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association on Tuesday seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to convert his cricket state team from Mumbai to Goa from next season.
According to the cricbing, Jaiswal also got NOC and that too in just one hour of sending mail. The speed with which the entire process took place surprised many people in Mumbai and IPL cricket circles. According to the report, the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has offered him captaincy.
Due to the stay of many star players in Mumbai, they do not get captaincy. The Mumbai team is led by Ajinkya Rahane (red ball) and Shreyas Iyer (white ball). Goa is a western state but it comes under the South region in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regional system.
At the age of 23, this is a big step for Jaiswal. He is the next big name to join the list of players going to Goa after players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad. Jaiswal played for Mumbai last season, when the Indian board issued a directive to players to play domestic matches in the event of no international match. He represented Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir where he scored 4 and 26 runs.
Earlier this year, Jaiswal was included in the Mumbai Ranji team before the semi -finals against Vidarbha on 17 February. However, the player had decided to stay out on the eve of the match citing his ankle pain.
Jaiswal has been playing for Mumbai since his under-19 days and he came into the limelight after scoring a double century for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy a few season ago. His efforts in domestic cricket gave him a place in the Indian national team two years ago and since then he has not looked back.
The 23 -year -old made a first -class debut for Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium against Chhattisgarh in January 2019 and has played a total of 63 matches in all formats since then. In which the team has been represented in 10 Ranji Trophy matches, 25 list A matches and 28 T20s.
In the Ranji Trophy, he has scored 863 runs at an average of 53.93. During this time, four centuries and two half -centuries have come from his bat. Whereas in domestic ODI cricket, he has scored 1,296 runs at an average of 58.9. During this time he has scored five centuries, including a double century. In T20, Jaiswal has scored 648 runs in 26 innings. During this time his strike rate was 136.42.
According to the cricbing, before sending the mail, Jaiswal spoke to some MCA officials and allegedly mentioned that Goa had offered him captaincy.
However, some people believe that their decision was also affected by the dissatisfaction of Mumbai team management. In particular, once during the Ranji Trophy match, captain Ajinkya Rahane sent Jaiswal out of the field. Additionally, it is said that other unknown incidents can also contribute to their sudden departure.
