The Supreme Court has refused to consider the petition seeking to make separate bicycle tracks across the country. The Supreme Court said that we cannot compare India to the Netherlands. How are such instructions when governments are finding people difficult to provide basic facilities like shelters and hospitals too?

A bench of Justice Abhay S Oak and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan objected to the broader nature of the prayers sought in the petition. Said that such relief can never be given. The court said how is this possible? The courts have passed several instructions regarding the footpaths. He is considered to be the fundamental right of every citizen. But it is not possible to make bicycle track mandatory under Indian conditions.

Justice Bhuiyan said that you are seeing India as a European country. Where every city should have a bicycle track. We cannot compare India to the Netherlands. The petitioner’s counsel said that the municipal corporation and the city planning law make dedicated bicycle track compulsory.

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition seeking to make separate bicycle tracks across the country. In the last hearing, the SC had questioned the justification of the application, saying whether government money should be used for the poor, on health and education related facilities or to make a bicycle track in the country.
