Khartum:
Seven civilians, including two children, were killed in a shelling by a paramilitary rapid support force (RSF) in Omdurman city north of Khartum, the capital of Sudan. The state media office said in a statement on Monday that 43 others were injured in the continuous firing by RSF on Sunday. The injured also include 18 children aged 4 to 12 years. The injured were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment. According to the news agency Xinhua, this shelling took place by targeting the mohallas of Karari area in Omdurman city when children were playing football at intersections during the prayer of volunteers.
“Facilities available in hospital for treatment”
A paramedic at the al-Nao Hospital in Omdurman told the news agency Xinhua that most of the injured brought in the hospitals, which were caused by flying projects. On the condition of anonymity, a paramedic said, “Some of the injured had to bite, while some suffered head injuries, who do not have facilities available in the hospital for treatment.”
The RSF has not released any immediate comments regarding this incident. Sudani Armed Forces (SAF) often accuse RSF of bombing the Karari area. This area is the only densely populated area of Omdurman. There are also many Sudani Army bases, including the Wadi Seedana military area, including a military airport.
According to the Crisis Monitoring Group cited by the United Nations, Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, Sudan has been entangled in the ongoing struggle between SAF and RSF since between April 2023. So far, at least 29,683 people have lost their lives in this struggle. According to the estimate of the International Migration Organization, more than 1.5 million people have been displaced inside and outside Sudan due to conflict.
