Adani Group’s copper unit joins International Copper Association

Adani Group company Kutch Copper Limited has joined the Washington DC headquartered International Copper Association (ICA). Adani Group gave this information on Thursday. ICA is a not-for-profit trade association representing half of the world’s copper production, with 33 members on six continents.

Kutch Copper, located in Mundra, Gujarat, is a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of Adani Group. Adani Enterprises is investing about $1.2 billion to set up a copper smelter with an initial capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in the first phase.

Kutch Copper’s state-of-the-art facility will also manufacture copper cathodes, rods and other products, which will significantly contribute to India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in copper production.

On joining ICA, Dr. Vinay Prakash, Managing Director, Kutch Copper, said, “India is poised to become an important hub for copper and its products in the coming decades. We believe that Kutch Copper’s presence in ICA will Membership will allow us to actively contribute to sustainability initiatives and collaborate with the global copper community to develop new applications and products in the copper sector. We look forward to this, which plays an important role in net zero transmission.”

Adani Group has started operations of the first unit of its greenfield copper refinery of Kutch Copper Limited in the last financial year. Adani Group aims to make it the world’s largest copper smelter at one location by the end of this decade. Its capacity will be one MMTPA. This will help India become self-reliant in its metal requirements.
